Volunteers Give Life-Saving Blood at Bloodletting Activity

DAVAO ORIENTAL – Some 34 volunteers have donated life-saving blood during the Mobile Blood Donation activity held yesterday, June 26, at the Provincial Capitol.

Organized by the Provincial Health Office, Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center, and Philippine Red Cross Davao Oriental Chapter, the bloodletting activity was held in line with the celebration of the province’s 51st Founding Anniversary.

According to the Philippine National Red Cross, 34 units of blood have been collected.

The said activity is an annual project of the province that aims to encourage capable and willing donors to take part in public service through blood donation.

With the theme, “A drop of blood saves a life,” the activity seeks to accumulate as much blood bags to accommodate medical needs of patients.

Organizers thanked the volunteer donors who came to participate and donate. Most of the donors are uniformed men coming from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Army Reserve Command, Bureau of Fire Protection, and other local agencies.

“It is the Red Cross’ goal to help those in need. And it is our social responsibility to help others, as well,” said Richard Lenoy from the Philippine Red Cross local chapter.

He added that everyone aged 18 and above can donate blood as long as they are healthy and have not consumed alcohol days prior to donating blood.

“If there are more who want to donate blood, they can just visit the office of the Red Cross Davao Oriental Chapter anytime and they will surely be entertained,” Lenoy added. By Shae Dacles/Photo by Eden Jhan Licayan
