THE GOVERNOR

Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang is the ninth governor of the Province of Davao Oriental.

He is described as a leader who strongly believes that if your heart is in the right place and you have good taste, not only will you pass muster in politics, you are destined to it, especially if you have the capacity to understand realities on the ground and account the real needs and concerns of the people.

His strong and intensive background in his years of public service resulted in the crafting of many government programs that respond to the urgent needs of the people.

He served as Barangay Captain and became ABC President and Sangguniang Bayan Member in 1989-1992 in his hometown of Manay.

Believing that meaningful participation of the people is a major factor behind the success of many government programs, the people rallied in support behind him and elected him Municipal Mayor of Manay for three consecutive terms where he continuously delivered his genuine public service.  A pragmatic go-getter, he has demonstrated as a local chief executive that despite the challenges of local resource limitations, effective governance can flourish given the right ingredients and a large measure of selfless leadership.

Our distinguished speaker’s capability of warming his people’s hearts, of walking with them and dialoguing with their hopes and disappointments, and mending their brokenness has led the people to elect him to the Provincial Government as member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for two terms, from 2001-2007.

Instead of running for the same position in the following elections, he opted to join the race to the House of Representative in the 2007 elections as he bid to pay closer attention to the sentiments of the public, particularly the constituents of the East Coast towns. With strong collaboration with former Governor of Davao Oriental Hon. Corazon N. Malanyaon as well as national line agencies, many development programs and projects have been successfully implemented here in the province within his three consecutive terms as Congressman.

Armed with his determination to sustain the achievements and further boost the milestones and successes achieved by the former administration of Governor Malanyaon, he accepted to take the challenge to run as the next governor of Davao Oriental.

His strong belief that the government should continue to operate with only the people’s interests in mind brought him to a landslide victory in the recent 2016 elections. With a huge mandate from the people, he vows to exercise a genuine public service that is truly responsive to the needs of the people.
