NLD-Barangay Outreach Caravan: A Gaining Investment for Peace and Development

After serving and benefitting 76 barangays in the province of Davao Oriental and making a desirable change, it can now be told that Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang’s centerpiece program, the Nagkakaisang Lingkod-Bayan ng Davao Oriental-Barangay Outreach Caravan has indeed been and continuously gaining grounds.

Since the program was implemented in 2016, the beneficiaries has already seen and felt the impact of the program.

Governor Nelson Dayanghirang reiterated that the program was designed to bring the services of the government closer to the people, including those from the far-flung barangays.

“The people have seen that the government is working for them. Let us then continue our unified efforts to spur lasting peace and development to our beloved province,” he said.

After the last conduct of the NLD-Barangay Outreach Caravan in the municipality of Boston, Boston now is the first local government unit to boast that all the eight barangays have benefitted from the program.

“Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang has given his signal for the program assessment. We will be doing the assessment with our partners, like Davao Oriental State University. We have to know how many benefitted from the program, the impact, and what still needs to be done to strengthen it,” said Mr. Rotchie Ravelo, the focal person of NLD-BOC.

He added that there is also a need to know if the program has been instrumental in uplifting the economic condition of the people, if it has increased their level of awareness to the program and its services, and equally important also is to ascertain if the program made them happy.

As yet, there are already visible gains of the program.

“The program has sustained and improved the relationship of the provincial government and national agencies,  the support of the barangays to  the programs of the government, reduced crime  incidents in areas visited by NLD-Barangay Outreach Caravan, and the remarkable increase of surrenderees before the program was implemented and upon implementation of the program, and other LGU’s benchmarking our program,” Ravelo  added.

After the first program assessment this month, the next move is to come up with the necessary sustainability plan of the program conceptualized by the Governor himself.

As he bent to implement inclusive good governance, Dayangirang said that NLD will be his legacy to the people of Davao Oriental as he calls on his people, saying “let us strengthen our unity to make the province the best dwelling place there could be for us and for our next generation”.  By Neela G.
