THE EFFECTS OF SPORTS

During her speech, Governor Malanyaon recognized the significance of sports in unifying the people. “It unifies races, social status, and differences.”

Likewise, she also underscored sports humbling effects which is a reality in any competitive game. “There will be always be winners and losers. I believe one of the significant values of sports is how we teach the young to handle defeats more than in victories. The most important thing is that for any fair play, defeat is temporary and you can always bounce back for the next match,” she said. “Another point is that events like this allows our children to be inconvenienced and to be away from the comforts of home. Think about the less comfortable transportation, food and accommodation. Some parents understand that one way or another, their children has to learn that not everything in life is comfortable, that not everything is about winning. The humbling effect of sports teaches us how to be resilient.”

She related the realities of sports to the experiences of the Province of Davao Oriental in its development journey that made it even stronger and resilient. She said her administration’s undertakings in pushing for many development programs and projects are not without difficulty, particularly in the inscription of the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  She stressed that the successful inscription promises a lot of benefits, in terms of socio-economic development, not only for the town of San Isidro and its neighboring towns but for the whole province as well.
