FAMOUS ALIWAGWAG FALLS WAS NOT ATTACKED

(Official Statement)

To set the record straight, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental wishes to clarify and correct the reports that the majestic Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park, one of the premiere tourist destinations in the province, was being attacked by Communist rebels.

It is NOT the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park that was being attacked by the rebels. The target of the rebel attack was a group of government troops being stationed away from the famous Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park. The rebels DID NOT attack the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park which is always teeming with hundreds of tourists daily, both local and foreign. However, the military, who are our most indispensable partners in our efforts to win the peace, have succeeded in thwarting the rebel attack on their forces that resulted in casualties on the rebel side.

This clarification is made to correct the reports on our province’s top tourism come-on. Such reports on Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park, if not corrected, could potentially deal a big blow to the province’s tourism image.

Despite the inaccurate reports, the Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park continue to draw many tourists both local and foreign, boosting the local economy.

No doubt, there is nothing quite like the ecotourism destinations of Davao Oriental. Being the new premiere ecotourism destination in the region, Davao Oriental has become the new beehive of tourism activities. Tourists now come in droves to see its most impressive coastal scenery, particularly its awesome and serene beaches and islands.

The whole of Davao Oriental has just been declared a tourism development area by the national government, encouraging the local government to invest in the development of the province’s top tourism sites.

Considering this, Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, together with all development stakeholders, vows to continue to take measures to ensure safe and seamless travel while giving tourists a remarkable Davao Oriental experience.
