DavOr’s Golden Anniversary, Sports Event Officially Opened

The commencement program yesterday afternoon, June 5, at the Capitol Covered Court was marked with a colorful parade around the Capitol grounds.

DAVAO ORIENTAL— With only a few weeks more to go before the province’s 50th Founding Anniversary on July 1, Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang has formally opened the month-long celebration in time for the opening of the Capitol’s annual sporting event dubbed as “DavaOrientalympics”.

The commencement program yesterday afternoon, June 5, at the Capitol Covered Court was marked with a colorful parade around the Capitol grounds. The opening ceremony has gathered employees under the Provincial Government, City and Municipal Governments here, and some national agencies.

The Vice Governor, municipal mayors, Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Panglungsod Council members, newly installed DepEd Schools Division Superintendent, are among the many top officials who are present during the event.

Eight clusters will compete for the Governor’s Cup on this year’s “DavaOrientalympics”.

Governor Dayanghirang enjoined all employees and officials to participate on the different events slated for province’s Golden Anniversary, which he says is a special and meaningful occasion for the province. He says the celebration will be the province’s venue to showcase its development for the past 50 years and an opportune time to recognize and thank the past leaders who each have contributed to these developments.

Meanwhile, for the opening of the DavaoOrientalympics, Gov. Dayanghirang said he hopes that this sports event will “create a working environment with open communication among participants as it helps build a more positive and more productive workplace”.

Governor Dayanghirang cited the importance of the sports event to keep the employees motivated and to build trust among each other which he deemed crucial to achieving a better standard of life and a better future for the people.

“I am confident that so long as we stand together and remain consistent in our service to the public, the people will be behind us every step of the way, as we work toward success”, he adds.

Governor Dayanghirang has led the ceremonial tossing of  the ball.

The game officially started after the ceremonial tossing of the ball which was led by the governor and Vice-Governor Niño Sotero Uy. Eight clusters will compete in various games such as basketball, table tennis, and chess, among others.

Vice Governor Uy said that “part of this administration’s thrust is the recognition of the vital role of the physical fitness and sound mind and a healthy lifestyle through sports. By this we can better respond to any eventuality and effectively carry out the mandate as government workers”.

“Davaorientalympics” is one of the series of activities laid out by the provincial government here in line with the countdown for the golden anniversary of the province this July 1. By Riza M. Golez/Photo by Eden Jhan Licayan
