Davao Oriental Will Experience 15-DAY Rotational Brownout

Kapihan Sang Kapitolyo on September 21 with Milfrance Capulong, Regional Communications and Public Affairs Officer for Southern Mindanao of the NGCP.

DAVAO ORIENTAL-The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announces a 15-day rotational brownout in the province.

During the Kapihan Sang Kapitolyo on September 21, Milfrance Capulong, NGCP Regional Communications and Public Affairs Officer for Southern Mindanao, said that the rotational brownout will be experienced by consumers connected to their transformer located in Bislig, Surigao Del Sur. This means that there will be areas that will experience scheduled and unscheduled power interruption, however assuring the public that the power outage will only be for a few hours.

The rotational brownout, which will start on September 25 and will end on October 8, is due to the refurbishment of the transformer in Bislig Substation after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the construction of the Visayas-Mindanao interconnection project.

VisMin interconnection project is initiated by the NGCP, a private company in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing power grid. The corporation’s project is “in support of the government’s vision to interconnect the major grids into a single national grid which is expected to help improve the overall power supply as it will enable the sharing of power resources across grids”, Capulong said.

“Those who are connected in our Bislig substation will be transferred to our substation in San France, Agusan Del Sur.  This entails load curtailment since our substation there (in San France) is lesser in capacity compared to our 30MVA transformer in Bislig. Thus, the power transmitted cannot supply all consumers so we have to resort to rotational brownouts”, she added.

NGCP is now asking the consumers for patience and understanding as the refurbishment is part of its effort to develop their facilities in order to provide better service for their consumers.

Capulong asks for the support of all consumers in the province to fast-track the completion of the project. As stipulated by the ERC approval, the interconnection project should be finished by the year 2020.
