Davao Oriental Commits Support to Region’s Development Plan

DAVAO ORIENTAL – Pushing for the attainment of the Filipino people’s collective ambition for a better life, the Local Government Units in the region, including the Province of Davao Oriental, have vowed their support to the laid out plans and programs outlined in the Davao Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2017-2022.

During DRDP Roadshow held in Compostela Valley Province on January 26, local chief executives from the North Cluster of Davao Region, comprising the provinces of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, and Davao Oriental, committed to actively participate, help increase awareness and contribute to the Plan’s implementation.

Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang, who was represented by Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Freddie C. Bendulo, expressed his commitment to advocating for the Plan “which is a significant guide in steering the region’s developmental directives.”

“As part of this region, we continue to receive full support and assistance from the regional agencies, relative to our local development initiatives, in gradually gaining a more secure footing towards the socio-economic development of the Province, as a whole,” he added.

Regional Development Council XI Chairperson Gov. Anthony del Rosario of Davao del Norte said that the Duterte administration puts Mindanao and Davao Region in the limelight –which is a chance to fulfill Mindanao’s big opportunity to lead the nation’s surge to prosperity wherein Davao Region takes a huge role.

“The Duterte presidency opened a lot of window of opportunities for Davao Region: robust investments, more tourist arrivals, cluster infrastructure development, booming businesses. We are also getting a substantial share in the government’s “Build Build Build” program in this golden age of infrastructure. For one, we look forward to the prospects of the Mindanao Railway System. Not only in terms of more efficient, reliable and affordable mass transport but also immense economic development in the area by connecting existing and emerging growth centers in Davao region,” he said.

A result of a series of multi-sectoral planning workshops, stakeholder analysis, and consultations conducted throughout the second half of 2016, the Davao Regional Development Plan 2017-2022 was approved in December 2016 and launched in July 2017.

It serves as “the blueprint in laying down the three main pillars of Malasakit, Pagbabago, at Patuloy na Pag-unlad that will help us build a secure, comfortable, and strongly rooted life for all Filipinos by dubbed as Ambisyon 2040.”

Regional Development Council XI Chairperson and NEDA Regional Director Maria Lourdes Lim said that the “RDP 2017-2022 is by far the most inclusive and comprehensive development plan that Davaoeños have crafted. It has a firm linkage to and relationship with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), 2017–2022, through its development framework, wherein national and regional societal goals are faithfully aligned.”

Highlighted within the plan are ten key projects that include the Davao City Bypass Project; Davao Sasa Port Modernization Project, Davao City Coastal Bypass Road; Davao Food Exchange Complex; Davao Public Transport Modernization Project; and Mindanao Railway Project, among others.

These projects are touted to accelerate development in the region wherein every Davaoeño is benefited, given opportunities for better and improved lives. PIO
