DAVAO CITY – The Province of Davao Oriental has committed its support to the newly updated Davao Regional Development Plan (DRDP) for 2017-2022.

During the Plan’s launching on July 7 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City, Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang and First District Representative Corazon N. A result of months of consultations, workshops, and planning, the Plan is being anchored on President Rodrigo Duterte’s Socioeconomic Agenda which bids on an all-inclusive growth and development, a high-trust society and globally-competitive economy.

In order to achieve those, the Plan will adopt strategies that fall under the three pillars of “Malasakit’ (enhancing social fabric), “Pagbabago” (inequality-reducing transformation), and “Patuloy na Pagunlad” (increasing growth potential of the economy).

First District Representative Corazon N. Malanyaon was among the speakers during the DRDP Launching at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.

Cong. Malanyaon, who was one of the speakers during the launching, expressed her commitment to the Plan.

“I say this, both in my official and personal capacity. As a member of Congress, and concurrently, the Vice Chair of the Appropriation Committee, I will vigorously see to it that the plans and programs of this region, particularly, those that address the impoverished condition of the people, and those that threatened our environment will be given the financial backing that our government can provide,” she said.

She further committed her support for change.  “We as citizens of this region can contribute positively to the full realization of the goals and objectives of the Plan, particularly, its direction toward “Pagbabago” a Filipino term that connotes and challenges everyone, for a meaningful, “Inequality-Reduction Transformation.” This is one of the rallying cry of this Administration, positive change must come, and everyone should partake of the fruits of that developmental change,” she added.

Malanyaon emphasized that in order to reduce poverty, “we need to expand economic opportunities in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, industry, and services. Indeed, this is a very relevant and timely poverty alleviation strategy because the majority of our people are in this sector, and to expand this economic opportunity would spell out more jobs, employment, and income. In this process, more people will have livelihood opportunities, thereby, reducing the number of unemployed or underemployed. By leaps and bounds, a magnitude of poor people will be drastically reduced because, now, many will have steady jobs revenues.”

Cong. Malanyaon also highlighted tourism as a promising sector that can help spur economic opportunities and drastically reduce poverty considering that the region is blessed with numerous natural and cultural endowments that can be harnessed and developed to be tourist destinations.

The Regional Development Council, headed by its Chair Davao del Norte Governor Antonio Rafael G. del Rosario, urged local government units in the region to participate in the implementation of programs and projects in order to achieve targets set in the DRDP 2017-2022.
